Question Of The Day

What... Just one? No, impossible. There are a few that rise to the top. I really enjoy a good comedy but I also like mysteries, psychological thrillers, dramas and even horror films (not the slasher types). I don't mind a science fiction film now and again if it's well done, and I'm okay with action films as long as there isn't too much knuckle-dragging and chest-thumping going on. Even a good documentary will catch my attention if the subject interests me.

How about you?

  1. I'm with you on psychological thrillers and comedies. I do NOT like to cry at a movie and I do not like "blood and guts" or car chase scenes. Actually, I'm really more about the popcorn. -Jenn

    1. UGH, blood and guts is definitely not my thing either. And car chase scenes are so horribly boring!

      But yeah, the popcorn! LOL

  2. Honestly? I have no bottom for films. I have been to the cinema 4 times in the past 25 years. Live performances on the other hand hold my attention (and my bottom in the seat when appropriate) and I could attend any live show on every night of the week.

    1. That can be fun, Sarah! It isn't something I've had the opportunity to enjoy all that much.

  3. It's probably easier for me to isolate which genres I DON'T like -- horror, gore, anything that's stupid.

    1. And there are plenty of stupid films out there unfortunately!

  4. Foreign first. Sometimes lighthearted is necessary. I just wish they made more smarter comedies, less teenage boy bathroom humor.

    1. I'm with you, Linda! It is so hard to find a really good comedy.

  5. Almost everything, horror and romance have to be really good before I'll even consider it though.

    1. I have to agree with you here. Bad horror movies can be stupid and bad romance movies can be ridiculous!

  6. This is a loaded question. I like so many.
I'm with you, horror (or scary/spooky), but not slasher!
I wish I had a better answer but I'm with Debra.
Easier to say what genre I don't fancy.

    1. It's good to be flexible. I am always open to watching any type of movie if it's a really good one. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for a certain type.

  7. We've stopped going to movies or even watching them at home because there seem to be so few good ones. Can you tell I'm not a fan? ha ha Give me a good book any day.

    1. I can tell :) And that's really cool. As an avid reader myself, I know there are enough books to keep you satisfied!

  8. I don't care for routine action films where the hero's gun never runs out of bullets and he never misses a shot. The villain always misses his shots.
Any slow very long movie where you have to fight to stay awake is not for me.
I love INTELLIGENT science fiction, psychological thriller, and horror movies.
A good documentary or biographical subject is nice.
I'm not sure about westerns. I wish there were more good comedies out there.

    1. The key word here is INTELLIGENT. I'll watch just about any type of movie if it's intelligently made. I find that there are too many dumb movies out there.

  9. I like humor and sometimes a family-low-on-tragedy movie. Animation's great for me too.

    1. There are some really terrific animated films! It's amazing what is created with all the technology of today.

  10. Musicals! Sorecently Pitch Perfect 3 and The Greatest Showman. And fantasy like Lord of the Rings.

NOT superhero movies. I’m glad Aiden is old enough now to go with daddy so I don’t have to. And never horror.

  11. I like most types of movies except those based on comic books and musicals. Like watching documentaries, westerns, dramas, comedies, thrillers, and a few other types.

    1. I think I was able to handle it better in my younger years. Now bloody movies really get to me.

  14. Love psychological Thrillers, Comedy as long as it isn't slapstick or an insult to intelligence! I also like old black and white dramas and mysteries. Romance, Western, Drama, Adventure. Science Fiction if it is not about an alien species that wants to conquer earth and we win AGAIN or Blade Runner dark movies. Not fond of Police type movies because almost everyone has a detective sitting at a bar watching a pole dancer!

    1. You know, Toni, I am totally with you on those alien invasion type movies where we are constantly winning. Yawn...enough already. Let's get a different perspective in there where we get our asses kicked :)

HAHAHAHA! The comment about the detective at the bar is hilarious! Because it's so true...LOL

Love psychological thrillers - love love UB British, Scottish murder mysteries in small coastal towns and then I love Medical Series such as Grey's Anatomy and others - ...i like everything but not slasher stuff. I am a huge binge-r on Netflix Amazon Hulu. I hope to subscribe to ACorn TV soon.

    1. You have really interesting preferences. We are new to Netflix and really enjoying it. We don't watch much TV but at night it's nice to get comfy on the couch with some popcorn and enjoy a good movie or series. So many options!

  17. OH yeah, some older stuff too. I absolutely lOVED "Dexter" which was gruesome in a way but it was SO good - wow I could keep on naming the shows I've seen in the last three years. I never watched TV much until we got these Subscriptions. I would just always watch old reruns like Friends, King of Queens, Two and a half men and how I met your mother, Big Bang. Never knew there was so much good TV to watch until recently.

    1. You know, I never saw a single episode of Dexter but my kids swore by it. And actually, it's my kids that have introduced us to many good shows. They are much more in tune than I am!

  20. Psychological thrillers, suspense thrillers, all thrillers and some comedies. Film Noirs before the 1960's. All of the Arnold's pre 2000 movies too. :) He's a genre of his own! I cannot handle chick flicks and romances...(sticking my finger down my throat lol)

    1. Thrillers are great, Rain. I also like those types of books. They keep you on edge. LOL

I always enjoy a good comedy. Not the stupid ones. The ones that have intelligent humour in them; a good script. Or something silly without bordering on stupid. For example, I enjoyed John Candy's films. They were a lot of fun.

    2. Most of the SCTV and SNL crowd did some great comedies. I think that anything with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau (pre 1980) is a surefire laugh!

An annoying phenomenon came to pass in the late 60's and 70's...T & A in all movies....that's why I'm more interested in the older movies, they didn't need sex and gore to catch the audience's attention!

      Delete
    3. My gosh, I so agree with you! I think that's why a lot of older movies and even TV shows annoy me. They rely on sex and gore to grab attention rather than good acting and a good story line.

    4. Cary Grant just had to raise an eyebrow to get me going lol! :)

  21. Definitely disaster/end of the world, although I don't mind the odd thriller, action/adventure, or even science fiction. It has to grab me for me to watch. Romance is okay if done well, if it's pathetically weak where women need men, no thanks.

    1. I totally agree with you on romance! When it's done well it's quite enjoyable. But I don't find many like that unfortunately.
