This Week

Happy Friday, blogging pals! Another weekend rolls in and with it comes another ‘this, that and the other’ kind of post from me. Do I have anything really exciting or interesting to share? Umm...not really. But let’s see what I can squeeze out here.

Last night we finished season one of ‘Stranger Things’ on Netflix. Has anyone watched this? It is...different. And pretty enjoyable. The acting was pretty good, which is one of the most important factors in enjoying a series. A couple of weeks ago we began the series ‘The 100’ and made it through a couple of episodes before our eyes starting rolling to the backs of our heads. The story line is not bad but the acting is awful. So much posturing. So much chest thumping. So much attitude. It’s too bad because I read the first book to this story and it was rather enjoyable. Maybe the posturing settles down and the acting improves as the series goes on. I don’t know. We’ll think about whether or not we’ll give it another try. In the meantime, we can start season two of 'Stranger Things'.

We’ve been eating soups regularly in the past month. I have a freezer full. Because when I make soup, I make A LOT of soup. It is one of my favourite things to have for lunch along with some type of sandwich. When I was a kid, I didn’t really care for soups. It was one of those things that you ate occasionally but could do without. Now I love them. It’s funny how our tastes change as we get older. Do you like soups?

Kazee the kitten has settled in really nicely around here, and she and Mocha are living quite peacefully. Thank goodness for that because I don’t know what we would do if they were at each other all the time. As far as her name, we started off by calling her KAH-zee and now we’ve decided on Ka-ZEE. The reason for this is that we’ve been singing a little jingle with her name in it (yeah, we’re weird like that) and the pronunciation is the latter. So, rather than confuse this little miss, we’ve decided that Ka-ZEE it is. Here she is living the life of a princess. Like cats expect to be.

My motivation for just about everything is really low these days (it’s like that every year around this time) but I push myself to do stuff. Including some drawing. Here is some artwork; some old, some new.

I’ve gotten back to regular exercising, which I hadn’t been doing for a looooong time. We got so involved with the cleaning and painting and settling of our home that I’d completely neglected that part of my wellness routine. Anyhow, so while I exercise I listen to music, and each time it’s a different style, artist, etc. On Wednesday I worked on these old muscles with Amanda Marshall’s music in the background. Do you know her? I LOVE her music. I actually had the pleasure of watching her perform live at one of her concerts in Montreal many years ago. She’s a tiny little thing with a BIG and beautiful voice. Below is the song "I Believe In You"; one of my favourites. Enjoy, and happy weekend to all!

    1. We are into the second season and enjoying it. It's an interesting story and the acting is pretty good, too.

  2. Kazee is adorable...they love those cat trees. We have three of them, and they are always on them! Oh I love soup, any soup. I never appreciated it as a kid, it was just a boring meal to me, but then I only really had Lipton and Campbells to choose from!

Stranger Things...sounds interesting, I'll have to look that up! Oh I love your Unicorn! We DID draw it the same day by the way! :) I hope your motivation comes back soon...the countdown is on...only about a month or two of winter left! :) Congrats on getting back to exercise! It's really good for the mood. I listen to music while I'm working out too, helps me keep the rhythm and makes it more enjoyable!

    1. I can't tell you how happy I'll be when this winter weather is gone. I'm really tired of all this snow and cold. Today we have a freezing rain warning in the forecast, which is the worst type of winter weather. I hope it doesn't happen. It makes driving so dangerous.

I used to exercise regularly until we started with all the house madness. I'm really glad I'm back at it because it makes me feel stronger and healthier in every way. The kitten often joins me...to sit on my chest as I try to do sit ups :)

    2. Ha ha, that's funny, kitty situps. Wait until she gains more weight, you might not enjoy it as much! :) Freezing rain in the forecast here too, I just finished shoveling the latest dump of snow from the driveway so we can get out if we need to!

    3. And judging from her big feet, she may very well grow big! LOL

UGH, freezing rain. Bleh... We are supposed to go out for dinner tonight but if the weather is really bad, we'll postpone it. My older daughter wanted to meet for breakfast this morning and I told her we'll try for next weekend. I don't know how the weather will turn out today, so better safe than sorry!

  3. I watched it alone at first, then I heard Daisy scream "where's will for like three days?"

  4. Hey Martha. Just found you. YES, I love Stranger Things. And I managed to sit through several episodes of 100 before I gave up. And YES, I love soup; I have it almost daily because like you I make a lot. (But I live alone, so even 1 pot is "a lot".) Love the squirrel tree too.

  6. I like soup once in a while. I have a couple of favourite soups that I make from scratch, more or less. But I'm certainly not a daily soup eater. I ate a river of it as a kid and that was enough for me.

    1. Soup overload! That would certainly turn you off from it.

  7. I love soup but I don't find it stays with me - I'm hungry again in an hour or two. So it seems like I'm just adding calories with no benefit . . . Do you have favourite kinds to make or do you make "dump" soup - put whatever's in the fridge in the pot? :)

What a sweet picture of Kazee! I'm glad she and Mocha are getting along well.

    1. Many times I make "dump" soups, which is a great way to use up whatever is left in the fridge and avoid waste. But sometimes I search for new recipes to try something new and different. I get bored of cooking if I always eat the same stuff over and over again. It depends on my mood.

Kazee and Mocha are getting along pretty well and that is a huge relief! I especially wanted this for Mocha since she got along beautifully with Nacho until the day she died. I would've hated for her to have a difficult relationship with another cat.

  8. In winter I often make a huge batch of soup on Friday and buy a couple of loaves of sour dough bread. No cooking the entire weekend, just heating up a cup or bowl of soup when the mood hits! The Guy's favorites are New England Clam Chowder and Tortilla Soup, my favorite is Pho, but I like experimenting with ingredients and trying new seasonings.

Loved Stranger Things. Watched all three seasons. The acting is good, surprising for such young kids. Do not watch Tin Star! 10 hours of your life your won't get back!!!

    1. I love your weekend (lack of) cooking! My kind of meal plan...LOL
All the soups you've listed sound great! I've only had clam chowder once in my life and it was really good. I should give the others a go.
Thanks for the warning about Tin Star. I'll stay away from that one!

  9. I love Amanda Marshall too. A friend gave me one of her CDs years back. Once in awhile it hits the deck for my listening pleasure. Don't hear much of her anymore do we?

    3. Maybe. But we're a few episodes in and I'm still not feeling it!

  13. Hi Martha, i’m not really a soup person. I played Amanda Smith and felt it could be a lot better and that the songwriters aren’t really that inspirational enough really. The Cranberries knew how to push the button and a lot can be learnt from them. It’s just my opinion other people might think she’s great.

    1. Music is such a personal thing, Terry. We can't all like the same things! The Cranberries do indeed know how to push buttons :)

  15. We are soupers too! I like to make them from scratch. My all time favourite is Scotch Broth with barley.
We have found a cafe that makes really good soup as well.....and they sell it too to take home.
Amanda Marshal! Where has she been?
Yep, Ka-ZEE looks right at home! Cute.

I'm going to have to do a search on Amanda Marshall and see what she's been up to.

  21. Haven't seen Stranger Things, we don't get it on free to air tv here in Aus. We do have our own version of cable, but we don't buy it. There's a lot of hype about the show, and while it looks like something I might be into, if it isn't on air, I generally don't go looking for it. In fact, thanks to the way our networks treat tv shows, I don't get to watch much of anything because all they play are decades old repeats and reality.

    1. We used to have satellite TV and canceled. It just wasn't worth it. The selection of shows was limited and not very good for the price we were paying. Then we went for a long period of time just watching whatever we could get off YouTube and whatever was offered directly from TV stations. And it wasn't too bad. But a few people I know kept going on about Netflix, so we decided to give it a try. So far we are really enjoying it. And the price is reasonable.
