This Week

Happy Friday, blogging friends. I hope life is treating you well. Here I am posting for a second time this week. Fi-na-lly. The funny thing is that I always have a gazillion things going on through my head that I want to share and then when the time to write a blog post rolls in, I draw a complete blank. I tell myself that I should jot down these ideas but I never do. So...I will just fly by the seat of my pants today.

First things first. Kitten Kazee, the newest addition to our family, is doing wonderfully. She is a bundle of energy, talks a lot, follows us everywhere and is as stubborn as they come. She gooses our other cat, Mocha, every chance she gets, but despite being an irritant to the older cat, they are getting along very well. I’d go so far as saying that Mocha even likes the little one. A little bit. Some days.

A bundle of trouble love.

This week we cleaned up our nest. Everything is dust free and shiny. Do I like cleaning? No. Would I hesitate to pay someone to do it if I won the lottery? No. Will I ever win the lottery? No. Because I never play. Therefore I’ll be doing the cleaning for a long time to come. Unless the most amazing man in the world wins the lottery. He plays occasionally and maybe he’ll get lucky, which means we both will. But I’m not holding my breath. Look at me all glass half empty and negative stuff like that there. *snort*

I recently treated myself to a beautiful set of coloured pencils. I couldn’t help myself; the temptation was too strong. And I blame thank blogging pal Rain for pushing me over the edge encouraging me to do so by sharing her beautiful purchases on her Instagram account. Now I have two sets of pencils. The cheap ones to scribble and practice with on cheap paper. And the higher quality ones to use on higher quality paper for when I’m feeling more artistically inclined. And speaking of art, here are some older drawings (because I’m really behind in sharing).

And here’s Kazee helping me photograph my artwork. Because she’s helpful like that.

Now here’s my pet peeve for the week...

You know what I cannot stand? Beauty commercials/ads. You know what I’m talking about. Those commercials/ads where they show some miracle product...anti age cream...anti wrinkle moisturizer...perfect skin mask...youth enhancing serum...blah, blah, blabbity blah. Why do these things annoy the living daylights out of me? Because the companies selling these products pile on six inches of makeup/foundation on the models/actors they hire and Photoshop the hell out of them. To the point where there isn’t a single line, wrinkle or pore visible on their faces. Not one. No one looks like that. No one. You seriously expect me to buy into the product you’ve sold your soul to peddle, Jennifer Aniston, when you don’t have a real face in these ridiculous ads/commercials? Do I have gullible written on my forehead?

End of rant.

Not too long ago, blogging friend John shared the song Una Paloma Blanca by George Baker. It had been years since I’d heard it and it took me way back in time. It’s an upbeat, catchy tune that makes me want to skip along a white sandy beach with it playing in the background. Ah, the beach, if only...sigh... Okay, enough with the pity party. I’m now sharing the tune with you. Enjoy.

And that’s all for now. Thanks for stopping by and have yourselves a wonderful weekend!

  1. LOL...glad I forced-coaxed-encouraged you! ;) Now when are you getting those pastels out??? ;)
I love that song, I remember it from childhood, it really is a song that makes you want to run along the beach isn't it? I'm glad you're getting your blogging mojo back, it's nice to read your post, especially your rant because I feel the same way. It amazes me how people are so impressed by Hollywood starlets who have boob job, face lifts, money for dermatologists, personal chefs, personal trainers and now even BUTT JOBS lol...they are not real women! Nor does these creams really work! I admit I got suckered into one cream that was supposed to help under the eye wrinkles, this was years ago before I made the scary decision to start dating. Of course, I paid $40 for the cream and nothing happened. Coconut oil works wonders and is all natural and not expensive! Last time I was out shopping, there were two ladies looking at the magazines, there was a photo of a 60-something starlet, one of them said "my she has aged well!" I nearly snickered out loud lol...

I'm glad the little trouble maker is doing well, she is aging well... lol...actually she is super cute! And I love your Bugs!!!

    1. It is pretty amazing, isn't it? These people have enough money to pay for all these services to make themselves look perfect. And they have tons of makeup on their faces when they are portrayed, not to mention all that Photoshop crap. And we're supposed to believe that not only do they genuinely look like this but if we buy the products they're peddling, we will too? Give. Me. A. Break. I'd rather spend my money elsewhere!

Thanks for the reminder (nagging...LOL) about the pastels! Can you believe I still haven't opened the box? I will. Soon. Keep nagging...hahaha :)

  2. Nice art, enjoy your new pencils! I was laughing at this ad advertising aging cream using the most perfect looking model with the creamiest skin the other day, unreal.

  3. haha, love the Photoshop Cream, haha - I so had to laugh at this. I use to buy Avon age reversing whatever the crap it was. Now I go cheap. I buy virgin olive oil and use it for everything. Kazee is so cute. And good for you on getting back to drawing and getting new art supplies. Your sketches are adorable. It is such a disservice to women of all ages to advertise this fake crap. I really enjoyed Helen Mirren, she posted a photo of herself on twitter before the make up team arrived to get her ready for the Oscars. I don't think she has had any work done and she looks just fine for being in her 70's.

    1. It is a total disservice to women. It's telling us that we are not good enough as we are and that aging is unattractive. I like natural products, especially to moisturize skin with. Most products have horrible chemicals in them. Why would we want to use those?

Kazee is a really cute little cat. She has brought a lot of joy into our home. And mischief! LOL

  4. So good to read your post.
Thanks for sharing your drawings and good job on getting some new art supplies ... enjoy using them.

    Kazee looks a cutie!

    Have a great weekend.

    All the best Jan

  5. All those anti aging creams are also just chemical cocktails. Why would I want any of it on my body? Ugh.

What’s the saying? Even Jennifer Aniston doesn’t look like Jennifer Aniston. And she should be ashamed at contributing to the lies that women are ugly.

    1. I totally agree, Birdie. How does she peddle this crap to women knowing it's crap? That is truly shameful.

  6. "Look at me all glass half empty and negative stuff like that there. *snort*" This is hilarious and made me snort too :)

I love the pictures of Kazee. She is a very pretty girl. You can always show us some Mocha pics too! I, for one, wouldn't run away :)

I intensely dislike the feel of makeup or even lotion on my face. And it makes my skin break out, even now in my sixties. Sometimes I think about all the money I've saved over the years, and it feels pretty good!

    1. I should show Mocha pictures! Poor little fur ball...she seems to be forgotten. I'll have to make it up to her with more petting. And extra treats :)

I share those sentiments about makeup. If I wear any, I feel like my skin can't breathe, like every pore is clogged. And like you, my skin breaks out. Even at this stage of my life, I still get acne!

  7. George Baker didn't ring a bell at all but as soon as the song started playing I remember it well. Good memories.

    1. It was the same for me. I didn't recognize the name but I did know the song when I played it!

  8. I bet Mocha wouldn't like the new one if it was a puppy. My brother's old cat didn't take long to despise their new dog especially as she got bigger. My mom's cat Danny does like other cats though he is really young. He always looks outside for the other felines

    1. I think cats are more accepting when they're young. And cats and dogs can live together happily if introduced properly. But it's a crap shoot!

  9. Kazee is a cutie! Those eyes are full of mischief! Gonna have a lot of fun!
LOVE your Bugs Bunny pic. Must be a good feeling of being able to reproduce something and make it look like the real thing.
Yes, what do these companies take us for? A bunch of gullible dummies? I guess there are enough gb's out there to keep them in business. A little make-up is fine if that is what one wants to do, but in order to create that flawless look you have to PACK IT ON an inch thick! Not that I have tried but I know people who do.
have a great weekend, Martha. Snowing here in Nova Scotia....getting our winter now.

    1. Those eyes are full of mischief because SHE'S full of mischief! LOL But she's also adorable. We do enjoy the energy she has brought into our home even when she is a troublemaker. HAHA

I really enjoy the artwork. It's very relaxing. I hope to spend more time with it as my motivation picks up.

Some makeup is fine and can be flattering, but you are right about having to pack it on an inch thick to get flawless skin! And those lotions and moisturizers and serums...they are the worst. They cost a lot of money and most of them don't do much.

I hope you're enjoying a nice weekend, Jim. It's about time you got some snow. It's mostly been ending up here and we have had enough! It's your turn now. LOL

  10. Hi Martha, good pictures. They look better now than when you first started drawing. I don’t understand why people care so much about beauty products either. Obsessing about how they look is not a good characteristic. I’d much rather see them without all of it on, to be honest. It’s good that you’re into photography. I used to be into it too once upon a time. Miniature photography is very creative and I love the things you come up with. Where on earth you get your ideas from is wonderful. I’m full of admiration for you and think you’d do a great job of it. Your imagination is awe inspiring.

    1. Thanks, Terry! I appreciate all your nice comments. I have a very active and vivid imagination, which is great because it helps me with all my art and photography. I haven't done outdoor photography in ages but now that most of our house jobs/renos are done, I hope to get out there this year a lot more often and take a lot more photos!

  12. Your drawings are improving. I'm allowed to say that, I know it sounds nuts but I am a qualified art teacher, well I was back in the day. Hard to believe I know. So if you won the lottery what else would you treat yourself to? I'd like a chef. :D

    ReplyDelete

    1. I would LOVE a chef! Having someone prepare meals for me would be a dream. And I'd hire people to do all the renovations around the house. But the number one thing I'd treat myself to is traveling. I'd love to see as much of the world as possible. That would be incredible.

  13. I haven't seen an advert in years but ... I do recall girls in their 20's going on about night time wrinkle cream. And I also recall skinny tummies talking about bloating.

    Love that you are drawing.

    Kitty is super cute.

As for cleaning, I actually do enjoy it. It's a meditation for me. Plus, I just love keeping home. I dunno, just born this way.

    1. We all have our preferences. I don't like the cleaning part but I love the results. When the house is really clean, it is beautiful. So I'll go through the process for that!

    2. Agreed! I get that, too. Not everyone likes the same thing and before decluttering to the tune of 95 percent, I don't know if I loved cleaning as much as I do now. Now, it's just so easy that it's become a meditation for me.

    3. It is SO much easier when there's less stuff in the way. I LOVE that. We will be doing another decluttering this spring. I've got more stuff to sort through and donate. Every time I get rid of stuff I feel really happy!

  14. Oh your kitty is a cutie ! I used to sketch but my hands are a little shaky now days but I love coloring with my niece and I love creating art with my photos and my own cards on the computer . I have never been one to get in the anti aging malarkey my theory is no matter what you do nature will eventually take its course and I find owning it all takes more guts then all the surgeries and to be true to ones self , and besides who really knows what all the creams and chemicals in them really do to the skins layers over time could all be doing more damage just no one will test or admit it all , the magazines , internet pics and commercials are all altered , touched up and Photoshoped anyways I don't like fake looks or people . I don't mind cleaning gives me something to do as I am retired and a feeling of accomplishment lol !. Thanks for sharing , have a good weekend !

    1. Hi Country Gal. Nice to see you here! I hope life is treating you well. I really like your philosophy. It does take more guts to embrace all that comes with aging rather than camouflaging it. And so true about all those nasty chemicals. Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

  16. My parents used to keep prize bonds but we never even think about playing lottery .though if we play and win even then i think i would love to clean my nest by myself as i feel uncomfortable to have someone in house to whom i don't know well ,to me it is risky and little dangerous as we read ,listen horrible incidents in which servants found involved .

I don't have appropriate words to praise your art dear friend :)

you are god gifted as i can see the art drawn effortlessly here ,smooth and beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad that kazee helps you in your art ,reminded me my younger sister she was almost as helpful when mom and me chose to do some chore together in past lol.
i am happy that her health is good now and she is being friendly with mocha which is often so hard as when male parrot owned by mom died mom bought new one to give company to her darling she parrot but that little spoiled lady never accepted him and kept him away always though he was nice and friendly

    1. It's not always easy for cats to get along but I'm so glad these two are friendly now. I'm especially glad for Mocha because her friend that she got along with beautifully died in January and we knew she was in mourning and lonely. The little one encourages Mocha to play and have fun, which has been good for her. I am grateful that things have turned out well because you never know which way it'll go with cats!
