This Week

Happy Friday, bloggers! How’s your week been? Mine has had a little of this, that and the other. Monday evening we went to dinner at my husband’s cousin’s house. She and her partner are retired archeologists and they have lived in this small city for 35 years. Not only was the company great but the food was out of this world! They chose a Mexican theme for the meal and everything was so incredible my taste buds almost exploded. I’ve always thought of myself as a decent cook but I am an amateur compared to these two. Anyway, it was a lovely get together and because they’ve been here for so long, we got some useful information about our new city.

After two social dinners in close proximity, on Tuesday the most amazing man in the world and I hid from the world. We are both introverts and being with people for extended periods of time exhausts us. So we took some time to re-energize…

...by doing what introverts need to do for the battery to fill up.

And yes, what kind of monster shows up unannounced and rings the bell or pounds on the door? There’s a thing called a phone, you know. Although we often don’t answer it. *tee-hee*

By the way, if you want to know how to handle introverts and phone calls, here’s some help:

Okay, I’m being silly today. That’s because I’m in that type of mood. Let’s move on to something else. Like art. Since I haven’t done any photography yet, here are some sketches. Nothing fancy but it’ll help fill up a blog post.

Now here’s a music video for you and the story behind it. A certain Google ad has been playing a lot lately and it features part of this song. Apparently, if you type into Google search “play that hipster song with whistling”, you get this. Of course, I couldn’t help myself, so I did just that and this was the first hit. I shouldn't be surprised because I was a computer programmer for years and understand the mechanics behind this kind of stuff. And I should even know better. But here I am being a puppet on a string. Along with many others, it seems, since the video has gotten over 11 million hits! Anyhow, try to enjoy. The tune is actually not bad.

And make sure to have a wonderful weekend. Happy Easter to those celebrating!

    1. Why wouldn't you? 😊 And we cross the street to avoid small talk when we see someone we know.

  3. I live in the "country" where there aren't many people around unless you live there. When the doorbring rings out of the blue, it is a big WTF?

  4. I love the introvert memes, especially the "monster at the door" - that is pretty much the way we think here, too. It's not that we don't like people, it's just that this is our safe place to relax and recharge and YOU CAN'T CONTROL UNANNOUNCED COMPANY!! lol

I love the hummingbird, Martha - really nice.

    1. That's not surprising, Christine. Until I learned about introverts, I didn't understand this side of me. Now it all makes sense!

  7. We were chuckling as we read this post. All sounded SO familiar!!
Last week we met up with my first cousin for coffee. It was a great visit and she is a sweetheart.
It took us till the next day to 'recover'. Guess we really do live a quiet life.

    1. We're the same way, Jim! We live a quiet life and when we do a lot of socializing, we need time to recover. But that's okay. Some time alone does everyone some good.

  8. Oh, Martha! I have a neighbour that just shows up unannounced. She is loud and the extreme end of extroverted. She’s always telling me a better way to live my life and how I should wear my hair and what trees in our yard should be cut down and on and on and on. She’s been away for several weeks now and I’ve been able to relax. I have considered selling my home, that’s how upsetting it is. I come home from work where I give way beyond what’s good for me then I come home and she shows up at the door. I have smallish panic attacks over the situation. She’s also so superior, telling me that I should get out more and how much it would help my depression and anxiety.

    1. Birdie, that sounds awful! Is there any way to put an end to this? You have the right to peace and quiet when you are home. I used to have a similar neighbour in Kingston. She drove me nuts. I stopped answering her calls and refused all her invitations to walk with her and her dog. Eventually she backed off and stopped coming around.

this is GREAT that they both were such good at their cooking skills and you really enjoyed the food, this is something happens rarely lol.

haha i enjoyed ,smiled ,even laughed while reading your call receiving chart ,i am not good at phone talking so i avoid long conversations during call which make me as tired as i run for miles lol.
being introvert myself i know how important it is to spending time alone with your own company only ,i call it repairing time!

I LOVED this beautiful blue bird with so serious eyes !

sceneries are always my most fav drawings as i love natural landscapes .

    1. Hi Baili! I hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend. We did enjoy the food very much. These are gourmet cooks and I'm not one, so if they ever come for dinner here, they'll be really surprised! haha

I do feel a little more motivated to blog but not enough to really pick up the pace. But spring is here and we'll spend more time outdoors, so I'll probably have more to share.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

    1. I love drawing these characters! I've done a few already and hope to get to all of them. I tried Tweety one time and just couldn't get it right, so I tore up the page and let it be. I'll try again another time. And I'd like to draw all the Flintstones characters, too. That has always been a favourite show. So funny!

George actually installed a door viewer (peephole) in the front, so we don't have to hide behind the curtains anymore. Now we just tiptoe to the door, take a peek and decided whether to answer or not. Mostly we don't answer. 😊

  15. Hi Martha, I tried to watch the video but was told that it’s not available in my country. Thanks anyway. Today is one of those days that I just wish would go away.Still, I hope you’re ok. Today is day 75 of not eating sugar. It’s annoying to keep on reminding you. It’s frustrating to keep on mentioning it. I’ve never seen you post a bad pic. In fact, i’ve always admired what you do behind the lens. People’s photography is usually ok so it doesn’t really matter what I think. I shouldn’t really say anything because i’m no expert at it. I wish I was. People could criticise my photos but they don’t.they’re much too polite.

    1. 75 days and counting! That is terrific. It's not easy to do. I agree that people are very polite but that's alright. I think it's a good thing. But with your photos, I'm not just being polite. They are very VERY good!

  16. Okay, so you can draw Donald Duck. Now, can you talk like him? When I was a kid, I knew a man who could do so perfectly! It amazed me and and of course, you know it made me giggle nonstop!

  20. Can't stand people who turn up unannounced, it's so damn rude. And if we get doorknockers, we don't answer. I was sitting at my desk in front of the window facing the street one day, and this guy comes in the front gate, knocks on the door, and when I don't answer he comes over to my window and leans in to talk to me. I told him to go away and he grumbled something, so I yelled out, 'that's why I didn''t answer the door'.

    I mean, seriously, people!
