Okay, let’s get to it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry asked:
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging since 2009. My first post went live on May 21st of that year. Since then I’ve published over 3,000 posts and had 1,253,739 page views. And counting. That may seem like a lot but it actually isn’t. There are blogs that get far more than that, especially for folks who do this for a living.
So it’s been a long time, Terry. I never would have imagined that years later I’d still be blogging but here I am.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What inspired you to blog?
All the cool kids were doing it and I wanted in.
Actually, reading other blogs was my main inspiration. It was fun and interesting and a great way to connect with people. I enjoyed a variety of blogs so much that I decided at one point to start my own because, hey, I have something to say, too. And I’ve been yapping away since 2009.
Over the years I’ve met some amazing people from all over. Some have quit their online presence completely, some come and go, and some have been blogging steadily for years. The best of all are those who I’ve been ‘hanging out’ with for a very long time. We’ve traveled together, learned about one another and offered support when needed. I've even witnessed some of the younger ones grow up. It is very heartwarming.
And I never would have met all these wonderful people who are creative and supportive and entertaining and inspirational if not for blogging. People who make me laugh and think and sometimes even cry. So YAY to blogging!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever thought about closing your blog? I have several times and I just wondered if I'm alone in this or do other bloggers ever feel that way too.
Yes. And no. I’ve had moments where I feel like quitting but mostly I’ve thought about suspending it, especially during those periods where my motivation to post something – anything - is very low. The past few months have been that way.
I feel like I’m a little burnt out with my blog and I’ve barely been keeping it alive. I’ve run out of things to say and sometimes feel slightly overwhelmed by the prospect of putting together a post. I believe a lot of it comes from how insanely busy we were last year with our home’s cleanup and renovations. We exhausted ourselves and we’ve spent the winter licking our wounds. Plus, I’m not a fan of winter and my energy and motivation are low during that period anyway. Now that spring is here and we don’t have as much to do as last year, I’m hoping to pick up the pace.
So yes, I’ve thought about shutting down my blog. But do I have any intention on doing that? No. As long as my favourite bloggers are still around, I will keep this site live!
And that’s it for now. I’ll answer another bunch of questions next week.
Happy Wednesday to all!
Hi Martha, i became a vegan this week. I thought that’s for me. I always fancied a bit of space travel. They said no, that’s a Vulcan!. Oh, right. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your Q and A’s. It was very good. I can’t imagine you ever quitting.
ReplyDeleteHAHA! This made me smile, Terry. Space travel would be fun, don't you think? My younger daughter is vegan. She makes it seem to easy! I hope it is for you, too. Enjoy!
DeleteWell, I for one am glad you started and that you keep at it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Birdie!
DeleteI'm glad I finally checked out your blog after seeing your name in the comments of various blogs I would visit. I enjoyed your answers and totally understand where you are coming from when you contemplate closing your blog - but at least you don't because you pick the bestest cartoons, lol. I'm glad to know you by the way.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA! And I'll continue to share the best cartoons :)
DeleteThat's a nice post to read Martha, getting to know you a wee bit more :) I started blogging in 2007-ish. I did close mine down for a few years but that was due to getting my life back in order and I didn't want to be distracted by anything so I could focus on my goal. Now though, I'm so happy to be back to blogging. It's everything you said it is, and I've met such lovely creative souls! :) You included! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rain! Well, you know I feel the same way. And I want to keep my blog going as long as the bloggers I like best are still active!
DeleteAlways interesting to read about other bloggers' experiences and thoughts. Nine years makes you one of the most long-lived bloggers in my list! I hear you on the times that inspiration dries up. But no one should feel pressured. This is supposed to be a creative outlet, not a job :)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely right! This is supposed to be fun, not a chore. So I just don't blog when the inspiration is not there. But that doesn't stop me from visiting other blogs and enjoying those!
DeleteHi Martha, many thanks for giving us all the opportunity to ask you questions ...and thanks for taking the time to reply.
ReplyDeleteYou are a blogger superstar!
Well I think so.
I didn't know you when you first started blogging but since I discovered you I always enjoy my visits. I thought the series of photographs you posted in previous years was marvellous too.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan! You are very kind :) Eventually I will start to share photos again. This year we'll be out and about quite a bit.
DeleteYour blog has always been a favourite of mine, Martha!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same about yours, Debra! Thanks :)
DeleteGlad to know you will keep going, I've never thought of stopping my blog, it's become a part of me.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you will continue on, Christine. Your blog is a daily favourite!
DeleteThanks for answering my question. I can relate to all you are saying, I tend to just stop blogging for a while when I feel too overwhelmed by everything in real life, but I think I'd regret closing my blog, and I'd definitely feel sad if you ended yours!
ReplyDeleteI would hate to see you go! I really enjoy our blog and learning more about you.
DeleteYou certainly express my thoughts about blogging and continuing the blog. sometimes it's a challenge to keep on going.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes it's definitely a challenge to keep on going.
DeleteOh, nice! I enjoyed reading your answers, Martha. I do think blogs wax and wane. I couldn't imagine being someone who posts daily, but I guess some do. Looking forward to some more answers to questions! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteThere was a time when I blogged every day. It was fun at the time but eventually I couldn't keep up. I admire those who can!
DeleteI am glad that you are not going to quit. I always enjoy both of your blogs.
ReplyDeleteThank you. That is sweet! xo
DeleteLOL on the cartoons, and please don't quit, I enjoy reading here, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I don't plan on quitting any time soon.
DeleteYou remain one of my favourites as well, Martha. I enjoy your levity and your opinions on more serious issues. I am happy to have met you here in this blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteAww, Jim, thank you! I feel the same about you. I'm so glad we're connected on Facebook so I can keep an eye on you three amigos! LOL
DeleteI would hate to see you close up shop, but yes even I've felt burnt out before and I did (at one time) consider axeing it but changed my mind and kept a strong will.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you continue on, Adam. You blog is a daily favourite. Plus, it's fun to watch you and Daisy moving forward with your lives! You remind me of my kids.
DeleteEnjoyed reading your answers! I know how you feel on not being motivated to post sometimes. I haven't posted for about three months now... I better post again soon before everyone thinks I've quit!
ReplyDeleteWell, it's certainly understandable, Bethany. You are a very busy young lady! I do hope you continue to post on your blog from time to time. It's always fun to read what you share!
DeleteI enjoyed reading your answers, Martha!
ReplyDeleteThese are fun. What do you like better?
Instagram or Blogger?
Hmm...it's hard to choose. I like Instagram for the variety of images and I like Blogger for interacting with blogging pals. So...BOTH! :)
DeleteMakes sense.
Deletei wait and i LOVED when you answer dear Martha!
ReplyDeletei am so happy that in spite of the lack of motivation or being tired or bored you did not stop the writing .
If you would it will be my loss my friend asi don't want to loose a wise and strong friend so keep connected always!!!love and hugs!
I hope to be more and more motivated now that spring is here. The weather will get better and I'll spend a lot of time outdoors in nature, my favourite thing! Love and hugs to you xo
