This Week

Happy Friday, everyone! Here we are at the end of another week. How has yours been? What have you been up to? How is life treating you?

My week has been very productive. I cleaned the whole house from top to bottom and squeezed in time to make three amazing soups. Our freezer was getting low on them, so I stocked up. Soups make for a terrific quick and light lunch, and they go well with a sandwich. I always keep a big batch in the freezer and when there are about three servings left, I restock. I’ve completed three out of the four soups I selected for this round and I’m sharing the links for them for anyone interested.

Mushroom Barley Soup

Italian Sausage Soup

Slow Cooker Chicken Tortellini Soup
(HOLYFLIPPINGBRAINEATINGZOMBIES...is this one ever good! I can’t say enough about it. Also, I made it on the stovetop instead of my slow cooker.)

Okay, now here’s one of my weird habits. I stick out my tongue when I’m concentrating hard on something. I don’t always notice it but when I do, it makes me smile. Because sometimes I’ll do it around other people. In public. In front of strangers. Does anybody else have this crazy silly habit? I’ve caught my brother doing it, which is kind of funny. All in the family!

I even squeezed in a little time for drawing. But I kept my sketches simplistic. That’s okay, though, because that contributes to me practicing this new hobby. I couldn’t be bothered I’m too tired to photograph my latest art, so here are some oldies.

Both Christine and Rain have invited me to join a drawing group, which I really appreciate. It’s not that I don’t want to; it’s just that I haven’t felt like committing yet. But I will eventually join because it’s fun and because it will motivate me to draw regularly. So thank you to both these lovely people. I’ll get there!

Oh, and speaking of art, most of my drawings are done by following along on YouTube videos. There are some amazing art teachers online and I am really grateful to them. They make drawing look very easy. So, thank you to all these nice people who are generous with their time!

The month of April’s weather has been really sucky so far but next week we should start seeing some spring-like weather, which will include sunshine. Sun? What is this sun you speak of? Fingers, toes and eyeballs crossed that this happens. Or else I’m going to lose my mind. How’s your weather been?

Now here’s a lovely song called "Breathe (2 AM)" by American singer-songwriter Anna Nalick. It’s the type of music I play in the background when I’m drawing or doing photography or exercising. It’s relaxing and meditative. Do you know it?

Okay, so that’s it for this week. I don’t want to keep you here longer than necessary. No matter how much I love you all. Now beat it!

And have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Soups are wonderful aren't they, I always keep some handy too!

I always feel so good if I've had a major cleaning session ...
I hope your weather improves soon, have a great weekend.

    All the best Jan

    1. I love them, Jan. They're so handy to have around...and so delicious. And there's no end to how many different types you can make. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

  2. Those soups do look good! I agree, its always good to prepare a lot of them at one time and then pull them out of the freezer when you need to for quick meal preparation (always for that, less time I'm in the kitchen, happier I am :)

I won't mention our weather but remember it is Phoenix and in summer we pay for the nice weather we have the other 6 months of the year.

Love when the house is clean; always a good feeling; now if it would only stay clean!

    1. I'm with you, Betty. I have moments when I really enjoy cooking and other moments when I couldn't be bothered. That's when the soups come in handy!

Yes, if only the house would stay clean. For good. LOL

  3. Hi Martha :) Oooh, thanks for sharing the recipes! That's funny...the chicken tortellini soup recipe...I'm actually making one of her other recipes for dinner tonight, chicken taquitoes...I have to sift through her recipe list! That soup looks delicious!

Congrats on the deep cleaning! I feel like I have to do it again already lol! That's so cute about your tongue! If I have a little weird habit, I have no clue about it because nobody has told me lol!

Okay yes...mosquitoes...will I be complaining about black flies and mosquitoes in the next few months. YES! And will I complain in about 7 months about cold temperatures and snow...YES! Lol...life in Canada...I love it...though yes, April is damn sucky and I've had enough... <---complaining again! ;)

Nice drawings :) I hope you find some time and commitment to join some drawing groups. At first I found it difficult and I was so insecure about my art, now I have a hard time if I don't actually do some art each day. It's a wonderful habit that I've developed and I love it! :)

That's a nice song. I don't know the singer. I'm kind of stuck in the 80's when it comes to music...that or I listen to a lot of new age, ambient or nature type of music. I find that so soothing. :)

    1. I just had to share the recipes, Rain! They are too good not to. Plus, you are always sharing so many on your blog, which I really appreciate and I want to return the favour. I've kept the link to her blog and like you I'm planning to sift through her recipes. I'll pin what interests me.

I do a really thorough cleaning about once a month. The rest of the time we do quick cleanups, mostly to get rid of the cat hair and keep surfaces germ free. I'm not a fan of cleaning but I do love the results! I just wish the squeaky cleanness would last much longer than it does.

I'm actually looking forward to joining some drawing groups at some point. I think it'll be really good for me. Sometimes I need that type of push to keep me motivated.

I LOVE 80s music. 70s, too. But because of my kids, I know a lot of more recent tunes, some of which are really REALLY good.

Hey, I'd rather complain about the spring and summer stuff. At least I'll be outside while I'm doing it! LOL

Hope you're having an awesome weekend :)

  4. Hi Martha, I.heard the song. I’ve heard a lot better.i had to laugh at Rain’s comments about how it’s great to be Canadian. My mate wanted to live in Canada really badly. The way you talk is really cool but just think of all that snow.

    1. And the long winters, Terry! Anyone that can handle the snow and cold will be okay here. Because we are a really cool bunch :)

  5. No I can't say I stick my tongue out when I concentrate, but apparently I click my fingers. :D

We've had a lovely couple of days of weather here in the UK and I was outside cutting the grass. It's hard to picture you still having snow!

    1. It's crazy, isn't it? We usually don't have snow around this time of year. This is somewhat unusual. But it's warmed up and it's all gone! So things are looking up.

That's interesting about you clicking your fingers!

  6. We have the same spring. I think a total of three days without snow and/or ice in April. But.. It is lovely today. Even have the kitchen doors wide open. Heaven I say, heaven.

Glad you're drawing and having a fun go of it. When you're ready, you'll join the group.

Funny about your friend. Sometimes Tim does that, too. When I'm thinking, I spin my plate about or whatever I'm working on, that's on the bench.

Hoping Frankenberry gets home early today. I've been on weekend time since I got up. Hellllo Weeeeekkkkend! Rah!

    1. We've had some pretty nice weather for a couple of days and the snow is all gone, which I'm VERY happy about. I'm not a winter person to begin with, so when it hangs around longer than necessary, it's tiresome. I hope to see some flowers soon!

No, nothing about a friend. Just me with that habit. And my brother, too. That's kinda cute you spinning the plate around! We all have our quirks :)

  7. wow good for you and thanks for the recipes - you sound motivated to fill that freezer. I'll have to let my cook know about these soups. And keeping up with your cute sketches - that IS a great hobby. They are cute and the girl is stylish! I've thought of joining in several groups but the thing is you are kind of asked to make sure you visit others and comment which would be fine but it would take a lot of time. not sure about the ones you might join if they do that. But if you do I'm sure you will enjoy it.

    1. You are so lucky to have your own personal cook (also known as 'the husband' LOL)! Anyhow, you will really enjoy these recipes. I always love having a whole bunch of soups in the freezer as handy lunches. It's worth spending a few days every few months to get this done.

There is that about joining groups...commenting on other blogs and stuff. That is one reason I haven't committed yet. I already have trouble keeping up with everything, so when I join I have to be ready for that.

  10. Your sketch of the girl is very realistic; well done. I admire your dedication and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

I love soup but it doesn't keep me full for long unless it has a lot of protein. The chicken tortellini looks like it would fill that requirement very nicely - thanks for linking to it!

  15. A busy week for you, Martha! Thanks for those soup recipes. We are ALWAYS looking for a good soup! These look delicious! I LOVE barley anything so this one will be the first.
So there we were yesterday going to 'Michael's' for art supplies (for Ron) when it began to hail! I checked the temp and it said 7C! What the heck! Then it turned to drizzle, then the sun came out!
    Gotta LOVE April....or NOT!
Spring cleaning was done as well. You see my brother, Dennis, was dropping by for supper during his break from 'parent-teacher night' on Thursday evening. A great way to get cleaning done, a little incentive!! lol
Have a great weekend and I hope you get some warm weather......that means we may get too....eventually!!

    1. HAHAHA! That is such typical Canadian weather! We had a day similar to that recently. It would snow and then the sun would come out and then it would rain and then snow and then the sun would come out...and on and on it went. Canada, eh? :)

Funny enough, I didn't start eating barley until a few years ago only to discover that I LOVE it. Since then I've been trying different types of grains and such knowing that I'm missing out on so many interesting choices.

Having people over for dinner is definitely one of the best incentives for cleaning...LOL

Hope you're all enjoying a wonderful weekend!
