Chuckles and Chortles

Happy Monday, everyone! How was your weekend? Ours was quiet for the most part. The only really unusual thing we did was buy a car. Finally! After a lengthy period of research and dealing with pushy and frustrating and annoying dealers, we finally found something we like and were able to get it at the price we wanted. The car has been ordered and we should be receiving it within a week to ten days, maybe even sooner depending on how quickly it's shipped. Anyhow, I'm just glad that's over and done with. If you're in the market for a car and have to visit dealerships, you have my sympathy.

This afternoon I begin volunteering at the local food bank. I have been thinking about doing this for a long time but felt a little too burnt out until recently. When you're out of sorts, you have nothing to give. Now that I'm feeling more or less like my old self, I'm eager to start getting involved. I'm excited about this new addition to my schedule and will share more about it later this week. Although vaguely. Because there is confidentiality to consider. And the respect factor, especially towards the clients.

And that's my news. What's up with you? While you think about that, here's some stuff to make you laugh. Enjoy and have a great day ahead!

  2. These are all hilarious, but my faves are Achilles and Eminem!

I hate car shopping too. Congrats on holding out for the deal you wanted! And it's great that you'll be volunteering at the food bank -- a very worthy cause indeed.

    1. Those two cartoons had me laughing out loud!

The food bank was a great experience. I'll be writing about it. I'm glad I joined.

  4. That's great news about the car! Congrats (but hope it didn't come with too high of car payments). Such a necessity to have them though! Great with your volunteering at the food bank. Such a worthy endeavor! LOL with the stupidity one :)

    1. We made sure to work within a budget, Betty. And as long as we didn't go over that, the payments will be comfortable. Still, it'll be nice when there are no more payments!

  6. Hi Martha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)))
I love the funnies today, the mousetrap one had me "guffaw" out loud lol...
Omg...I HATE buying a car...the last one we got at H Gregoire and they are PUSHY...but we stood our ground and got the price we wanted. Ick...hate that. The salesman said "this car is in such good condition, I'd let my daughter drive it" ha ha ha ha ha....I think that's in the sales script, I've heard that one before! Reminds me of Seinfeld...David Puddy is a salesman at some point when Jerry is going to buy a car. He's adding up all the extra expenses, here's the link, I think you'll giggle at this one (it's only 30 seconds but worth it!): https://youtu.be/ZCT3jm1A-5U
Congratulations on getting through the car buying process without being in a straight jacket afterwards!!!

    1. HAHAHAHA! I remember that episode. And you know, even though it's slightly exaggerated, there is so much truth in that video about what goes on at the dealership. What a pain in the ass most of these people are! And they all seem to be reading from the same script. George and I rolled our eyes at each other plenty of times. But we also told them to "cut the crap" occasionally (maybe not with those words :). Because honestly, I have little to no patience for the bullshit sales pitch. Answer our questions and give it to us straight. Or else we leave. A few of them did dial back the pushiness and start speaking in a normal manner. I got dangerously close to the straight jacket, Rain. LOL Thankfully, I made it through...sane... :)

  7. As I suspected - peanuts and Eminem don't go together.
    Have a great week, Martha.

  8. I can imagine your relief at having the car deal done and over . . . and now you can look forward to air conditioning and that new car smell :) Good for you for volunteering with the food bank. This country would be a lesser place without the time and energy given freely by volunteers.

Thank you for the cartoons; you always find gems. They are a good antidote to the sadness that can overtake us sometimes, given the constant bad news, much of which we can do nothing about (Florence footage is particularly sticking in my head at the moment). It's good to get out of that head space a bit.

    1. We do need some humour! Being bombarded by bad news all the time is extremely depressing. I've been trying to stay clear of negative things lately. It is exhausting and makes me toss and turn at night. I've taken a break from that and I am focusing on more positive things. The food bank experience was great. I'm glad I joined and hope to be able to help out for quite some time.

    1. We checked out and test drove the Nissan Rogue, the Mazda CX-3 and CX-5, the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4, the Ford Escape and the KIA Sportage. After a lot of research and consideration and dealership visits and test drives, we settled on the Kia. Great ride, great price and best warranty. It is the only brand that offers a 5-year/100,000 KM bumper to bumper warranty!

  10. Buying a car is a nightmare. Congratulations on making it through the obstacle course! We're considering a medium SUV purchase and wishing we could just one from Amazon.com!

Love the cartoons. Yes, stupidity is hereditary in many cases!

    1. HAHAHAHA! Don't be surprised, Toni, if one day we can order cars from Amazon! LOL
I hope the car buying process goes smoothly for you once you decide to go down that route. It is indeed a nightmare!

  13. 'Does stupidity run in your family?' LOLOLOL Actually ALL were funny and had us laughing OUT LOUD! Thanks, Martha.
New car eh? Good for you guys! I've always been the ODD guy out....I love hunting for cars! Maybe because my dad was a car salesman most of my life (one of the honest ones) and I learned a lot from him and hanging around car lots/showrooms with my brothers in the evening doing our homework and giving my mother some peace. Can't wait to get our 'new to us' next car!!

    1. You are the odd one out, Jim! LOL But it makes sense since you had a different experience. There are always the good ones doing an honest job, be it selling cars or houses or whatnot. It's the bad apples that make the experience tiring and stressful. And it's too bad because it should be a pleasant experience when making a big purchase like this. But we don't get pushed around too easily, so we're still standing. LOL
