Happy new week, blogging friends. How is everyone? What have you been up to? What's been keeping you busy? We are looking forward to getting out a lot more as the weather improves. Can't wait for those long walks and lengthy bike rides! And visiting and exploring neighbouring towns and cities. Squeeeeeee!
Remember when I mentioned that I was on a journey to lose a few pounds and get into shape? This came about because we'd gotten lazy over the winter and did a little too much munching on crap, which brought on a few extra unwanted pounds. This didn't surprise me. Well a little over two weeks ago I decided enough is enough. I ditched all the junk food, stocked up on real food and got back to eating healthy. I always exercise regularly, so that wasn't an added effort, but that activity combined with better nutrition has brought on positive results: I've already lost 4 pounds! My goal is 10 and I don't see a problem getting there.
This Wednesday I have a colonoscopy exam. Perhaps this is a little too much information, but I can't stress enough how important this medical procedure is. You have one day of discomfort as you prepare for the test and a few hours of inconvenience on the day of, but it may catch early onset of colon cancer. I've already done this test before and find it very easy (aside from the preparation). If your doctor recommends it, do it. It may save your life.
And that's enough of all the 'awkwardness'. Let's get to the funny stuff.
Love that book cover, LOL! And I hope the colonoscopy goes well. I won't say "have fun."
ReplyDeleteHAHA! No, definitely not fun :)
DeleteCongrats on the weight loss! I bet you will lose at least 2 more with the colonoscopy prep. Thank you for reminding people of the necessity of this. My mom had colon cancer 6 years ago so I have already gone through the procedure once, the prep is definitely worse than the test.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to start designing my own book covers too :) Have a great week! XO
Well, I'm happy to know that your mom did well. And glad to hear that you have gone for testing. It's so important! The prep is not very pleasant but the exam itself is very easy. At least it has always been for me. Hope your week is going well! xo
DeleteThanks for the laughs! All the best for the colonoscopy results, no fun! Congrats on the weight loss so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christine!
DeleteThe last one - yes! Heavenly karma.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Martha.
Right? Wouldn't that be soooo satisfying with these corporations?
DeleteI'll try that next time I get lost.
ReplyDeleteLet us know how that goes :)
DeleteThat's a good reminder Martha. I need to go for various screenings, but I have zero motivation to do it. I'm sure it wasn't fun though, but very good prevention. CONGRATULATIONS on the 4 pounds!!! You're nearly there!!! :) I love that Survival Tip, I laughed really loud...in fact it was a "guffaw". :)
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA! Love that word "guffaw". It always makes me laugh.
DeleteGo for your screenings, girl! You a family that loves and needs you, so do those tests and be there for them for the long run! And we're so fortunate to have our healthcare system that costs us nothing.
Gotta get one of those book covers.
ReplyDeleteRight? I need that, too!
DeleteLOL to all of these :) Well done on your pounds lost, and good luck with the colonoscopy. I tend to freak out over those things if I think of them beforehand, but at the time, one just takes things as they come and before you know it, it's done, eh?
ReplyDeleteThese tests can cause us to feel anxious. I try not to think about them too much beforehand but with a colonoscopy you can't help it. The preparation is tiring and unpleasant. At least the exam is very easy.
DeleteGood for you for getting back to healthier living! I'm sure those other pounds will come off relatively quickly especially now that spring is coming upon you and you'll be more active outside. It is easy to fall back into old eating habits; we have to be careful with that since our weight loss. Since we now weigh weekly, if we're up a pound, its easier to get things under control sooner than later. I'm sure your testing will turn out good this week.
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoon with the lady on the plane; that was a good one!
betty
You are so right, Betty. It's easy to fall back into old habits but it ends up costing us some way. I should know better because I'm typically a healthy eater and always feel my best when I'm focused on real food. I slacked off for awhile but now I'm back on track.
DeleteI love all of these, Martha! I'm flying tomorrow ~ I could use that book cover! Just kidding, not about the flying, but about the book cover. I enjoy talking to people. Congrats on losing 4 pounds! And good luck with the colonoscopy ~ No fun, but it beats getting colon cancer. Thanks for speaking up about the importance of this procedure. It can truly be life saving.
ReplyDeleteOh, another adventure? Have fun! And share photos with us :)
DeleteIf your prep for the procedure is to drink something yucky here's a good tip - use a fat straw and put it at the back of your mouth - it will go down fast without tasting so bad. You're welcome!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have a fat straw but I did have a regular-sized one, and it did help. Thanks!
DeleteGood selection is week, Martha. Love your Survival Tip. Of course you are right about the colonoscopy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed! And it is an important test that we should do if a doctor recommends it.
DeleteWell done on your weight loss, and hope the colonoscopy goes well.
ReplyDeleteThanks as always for the chuckles.
All the best Jan
You're very welcome, Jan! Same day next week :)
DeleteBravo Martha! I gained while in Florida 🍺...have not been able to lose an ounce yet...😬
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of your week...
If only those darn pounds would stay away from us! LOL I used to have an amazing metabolism in my younger years. When menopause hit BOOM that was gone. Now I have to be more careful.
Deletedear Martha my heartfelt best wishes for your test ,i hope and pray that all goes fine and smooth ,amen!
