Chuckles and Chortles

Happy new week, blogging friends! How is everyone? We are doing fine, thank you for asking. Just trying to keep busy. Yesterday I enjoyed a walk with a dear friend who lives just minutes away. It was a gorgeous day. I drove to her place at 8 AM, parked my car outside her home and we pounded the pavement for the next 90 minutes. I went home feeling great. In the evening, the most amazing man in the world and I went grocery shopping. We are stocked up for at least a week and very grateful for having enough to eat and a warm home to live in.

Last night we wrapped up season 16 of Grey's Anatomy; an enjoyable show but nothing earth shattering. We also watched the movie The Glass Castle, which was good, but certainly not as good as the memoir. Have you seen the film or read the book? Both worth checking out. We started the series Shameless, but we've only seen one episode, so I don't have an opinion of it yet. But the best thing we watched all week is the documentary RBG, which details the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What a story! What a woman! A must see. I've always admired this woman but didn't know her story. Very inspiring.

Okay, time to laugh. Enjoy and have an amazing week ahead!

  2. Hi Martha. The first step in destroying a democracy is to deny science and discredit the news media, and that is exactly what has happened for those not wearing masks. I did get a chuckle out of Noah's ark cartoon. Thanks for the laughs.

    1. I couldn't agree with you more! Some of the things going on are just crazy. You're welcome about the laughs. We certainly need them these days.

  3. It's frustrating when some people just don't get it about masks. How can they become obsessed with things like freedoms and rights.

    1. It is very frustrating. And it's a selfish act. We should be taking care of one another.

  4. Awwww, Baby Snoopy!

Yes, you're absolutely right about why we should all wear masks. Some anti-maskers are just selfish, immature jerks. But some use the issue as an entry point to peddle all kinds of right-wing hatred and racism to the gullible in order to increase their ranks. That's the truly insidious thing about the organized anti-masker movement. And some of the worst of it comes via conservative evangelical churches in the US. That's who those Mennonite churches in Manitoba are listening to and learning from.

    1. I totally agree, Debra. And I am appalled with what's been happening out west. It's shameful. It surprises me that people who preach about love and compassion for others refuse to wear a mask that would put the money where their mouth is. Instead, you get the me-me-me attitude. My patience is wearing thin.

  5. Thanks for the laugh! I like documentaries I should watch RBG’s. I caught one on Wallis Simpson which was very interesting. We watched many seasons of the irreverent Shameless.

    1. We haven't advanced with Shameless. Seems we're undecided whether we feel like watching any more. We shall see.

  6. There must be variations of the Noah Ark one; I saw one with a corgi; that was cute as "heck"!

  7. You are so right about anti-maskers. I have no patience with them and their selfishness.

It took me a few moments to get the Superman meme but OH! when I did ... LOL!! Love the "how introverts make friends" too :)

Have an excellent week ahead, Martha :)

    1. The selfishness and the nonsense has become very tiresome. You'd think people were being asked to sacrifice their firstborn instead of just caring for the health and safety of others. It's just a tiny gesture. Putting on a mask is not some huge sacrifice.

Anyhow, I hope you are enjoying a good week.

  9. There's a lot of truth in the introverts/friends one.

Dr Yancy makes the essential point eloquently, but I think the anti-maskers do realize this on some level -- certainly they can't have avoided hearing it in some form. They just don't care. Being an asshole is part of the brand now.

    1. Much to my dismay, I have to say that I agree with you. They simply don't care. I've seen that type of attitude around here.

  10. We are in season 5 of 'Shameless'. We like it. The characters/actors are excellent. A real reflection of how some people have to live in order to survive what was thrown at them from birth. They are shameless and have to be to live to the next day.
The anti-maskers are quite simply.......selfish idiots.
On Noah, I can relate.....I really can!! lol

    1. We started Shameless but haven't advanced on it. Too many other things to watch!

I totally agree about the anti-maskers! Tired of being diplomatic about it. We need to take care of each other. It's the right thing to do.

  11. Thanks so much for these funnies. I have no more patience with anti-maskers or idiots who go around not socially distancing because they're "Not Sick." Doctors are now finding people with strange, debilitating post-COVID problems that disable them. Enjoy your viewing.

  12. Can you believe we are now in December!
Even in these strange times the days and weeks fly by don't they.

Many thanks for the chuckles, my favourite is the Noah's ark one.

    Have a good week.

    All the best Jan

  13. I'm Maleficent when I have to shop for groceries and see people without masks or people who wear a mask without covering the nose. I even saw one guy wearing the mask on his chin. I don't dare say anything because some Trump supporter might punch me, but why don't store security guards enforce the mandate to wear masks? That's for me to ask at the service desk. I read The Glass Castle three times. I saw the movie once. Even if I hadn't read the book, I don't think I would have been impressed by the movie. Love all your funnies. They made me smile.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. We have people like that around here. I would never approach them become many of them seem hostile, ready to pick a fight. There's no telling how they'll react. But I do wish stores would enforce the mask-wearing rule to - at the very least - protect their employees (and customers) from this type of selfishness. It's ridiculous.

  14. love all the funnies.
Shameless - it's so raunchy at times but I actually began to like the characters, certain ones and kept following to find out what was going to happen next. I would get really tired of certain things but then a storyline would grab my attention again. They never spent too much time on one storyline, usually switching pretty quickly to another character's story. The newest season is coming out on Showtime so it will be awhile before I see it at Netflix.

  15. glad you had wonderful day with friend and than with hubby dear Martha

to be honest i feel that such irresponsible behavior comes form people who lack "imagination" that could have allowed them to foresee things ,mostly we don't get serious until we experience it so true
i share your opinion and concern
i so enjoyed funny picks of this week ,each made me smile or laugh :)

    1. Yes, some people don't take it seriously until they are personally affected by it and that's a shame. We should care for one another.

I enjoy inspirational shows, movies and books, so like you, I try to find something that fills that interest.

      Glad you enjoyed the humour!

  16. I was in the post office last week and the guy working there wasn't wearing a mask, there was no plastic screen, and the customer he was dealing with wasn't wearing one either. The lady next in the queue was and when she got to the desk she told him off for not wearing a mask, and said it was against the law etc. I really admired her for challenging him about it, next time I went in, he was wearing one. It wasn't over his nose and was hardly around his mouth, but it was progress. One dear little lady may have saved someones life.

  17. We have a store manager here who will not mask. We've notified corporate. They promised to speak with her. She won't mask.

I won't shop at their store. Simple enough.
