Chuckles and Chortles

Happy new week, blogging friends! How is everyone doing? What have you been up to? Anything interesting going on? What are you reading or watching? Share below in the comments! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and for those who celebrated, I hope you enjoyed a nice Easter.

Last week was another very busy and productive one for me! I finished cleaning and de-cluttering more of the house. I'm about 75% done at this point and very pleased with the results. We have gotten rid of a lot of things and I couldn't be happier. The most amazing man in the world has been a tremendous help, especially with moving around heavier items. There are only two rooms left to tackle and then we’ll deliver all the boxed items for donation at the local thrift shops. The few pieces of furniture we didn’t need anymore were listed on Kijiji for free and one of them has been picked up. Another has been inquired about, so that should be going soon, as well.

I tell you; it is so liberating to be chipping away at things we don’t need. The house seems more airy and easier to clean! We went out for coffee a couple of evenings ago and we discussed what we’d like to do next in terms of our living arrangements. And we both agreed that it would be great at some point in the future to sell this house and find one that is much smaller. We joked that it would be our final stop before the old age home! Ideally, we’d love to move to Ottawa at some point. Maybe not directly in the city since it’s so expensive but on the outskirts. We’ll look into it and if we can make it happen, we will.

And that’s all for now, everyone! I hope you are all keeping well. Enjoy all the funny stuff below and have an amazing week ahead!

  1. Thanks for the laughs today, Martha. The "happiness" sign is funny, and I got a kick out of the failing catapult industry.

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed them! I guess we'll just have to find out for ourselves what the secret to happiness is.

  3. Hahahahaha, these are all hilarious! I love Ottawa. I spent a year there about 30 years ago doing postgrad work at the University of Ottawa. I always wanted to live in Ottawa but could never manage to get myself hired by the federal government, alas. Every time I go to Ottawa, the old longing to live there reawakens.

    1. It is such a great city, Debra. Every time we visit, we have a wonderful time and we long to live there. If we are able to make it happen, we will. I'd like nothing more. There is so much to see and do there, and Ottawa just has this nice vibe. Plus, living in a small city just doesn't work for me. I need more action!

  4. Oh darn! And I was hoping to learn the secret to happiness!!
Busy in garden daily.....always something to tackle.
Smart if you guys are considering down-sizing. We did this when we bought 30 years ago......thinking ahead! lol And outside a city was our best move too. Good luck.

    1. HAHA! We'll just have to figure out the happiness formula on our own, Jim, although I think we're both doing quite well with that. That was a good idea that you downsized. We bought a smaller home when we left Kingston but it's still more room than we need or want. We're going to work on reducing our space further. It will be much easier to take care of.

  5. I may make some yard signs with the secret to happiness...

I'm really glad to see that first meme. I've had that for years and was saving it for the "right" time. Now I can get rid of it.

    1. It does feel that way, although we've already been here 5 years. I'm guessing it'll be a while before we are able to make our move. Everything is just too expensive right now.

    1. It is exciting, Christine! If I could move right now, I would do it. I'm guessing it will take quite some time. The home prices are crazy!

  8. You are doing well with cleaning and de-cluttering more of the house, it really is quite satisfying to do isn't it.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend spending fun time with family :)

Many thanks for the chuckles, always appreciated.

    Have a good week.

    All the best Jan

    1. Well, if it makes you feel better, it took YEARS to convince my husband to donate the CDs. He finally agreed last week! So there is hope for everyone. LOL xo

  11. love all the funnies - my favorite is the cat with the cone on his head, lololol and the mice having so much fun. Love it~ Good to hear how happy you are with your cleaning out and clearing out ... I totally know how that feels and now i feel i should do it again...i'm a collector of memories and it can get ahead of me at times..with photos, journals, etc. we haven't purchased any new furniture since we got rid of so much when we sold 11 years ago. I haven't bought too many doo dads or things I don't need but some how just bringing things in from storage is cluttering it up again.

    1. I love de-cluttering, Sandy. I do it often but this time around I went much further. A lot more items are leaving our home this time. More than ever before. My husband and I both agreed that it's time to do a big clean-up and that's what we've been focusing on. By doing this, we'll be able to pack up and move much easier should something really small and interesting present itself at some point!

    2. Good reaon to do that - ..you never know where the "flow" might take you and it will be easier. My first big move in about 30 years was unbelievable - the stuff i gave away ...the lawn furniture i thought i would never need again and miss...and I never bothered to have a yard sale i just said come and get it if you want it. In our area we had what isi called FreeCycle - and you post your stuff and someone shows up. I had one lady who came by three times to get a lot of stuff and weirdly enough she actually lived in a big semi-trailer like trucks have that was redone as a home.

    3. FreeCycle sounds like a wonderful service! We have a few things that the city sponsors and there is an online service (free to use) where you can post images of items you want to see or give away (and also search on for items you're seeking) and that's what we use the most. We're giving away the larger items and dropping off the boxes and bags for donation. I see such big difference now in the house when I'm cleaning. Less clutter = easier cleanup! I just love it.

  12. I love that first meme. Someone was very creative to come up with that line :)

You are smart to be downsizing now while you have the energy. It will make life easier no matter if you stay or move.

    1. Downsizing will definitely make life easier. I'm already seeing the benefits and I still have enough energy for more responsibilities. At this point, we'd rather invest time and energy into things that are more pleasurable than chores and maintenance. Ottawa is where we'd like to be. If we could afford it, we'd move there now. But everything is ridiculously expensive. We'll stay put for now and if we're able to make the move we will. I'm grateful that we are comfortable where we are and we don't have to worry about living arrangements.

  13. Ottawa would be a great choice in my opinion. My daughter lives in Orleans, but even there house prices have gone through the roof (pardon the pun!).

    1. HAHA! Yes, the prices have definitely gone through the roof! We love the are of Orleans. We visit there often. If we could move there, believe me, we could.

  15. it is great that you felt light and liberated after decluttering your house dear Martha ,i am thinking about it since few years as energy level is dropping quickly and it is challenging to keep house tidy and organized ,like you i have in my mind to move into smaller house ,closed one actually so i can avoid all the daily cleaning that takes lots of effort and energy .

i am sure you will be having the house of your dreams soon my friend !
loved the funnies ,specially about the generation gap one so true

    1. I've seen a huge difference since I started de-cluttering, Baili. It is so much easier now to tidy up. I really don't want to spend more time than necessary on chores and household responsibilities. I'd rather be free to do other things like spend more time outdoors, go on day trips and get together with people I care about for meals or coffee. As I get older, I find it more tiring keeping up with the house. I do hope we eventually find a very small home that will be just big enough for us to be comfortable. I hope you are your family are all doing well!
