Chuckles and Chortles

Happy Monday, my blogging pals! How is everyone doing? What have you been up to? How are things going? What's keeping you busy these days? Share, share, share... Oh, by the way... Is anyone using Bloglovin'? I was but I finally ditched it. There were one too many times lately that it wouldn't work and I couldn't see your blog posts. I have now moved on to Feedly. Anyone using that?

Our Sunday was very quiet but our Saturday wasn't. In the evening, we attended a small outdoor house party hosted by a friend of a friend. We hung out on the deck all night long and had a really nice time. There was a lot of food, drinks, music and laughter. And the weather was just perfect! We got home around midnight, which is late for us these days!

Outdoor projects are keeping us busy. Weeding, planting, watering, planting, planting, planting... I am determined to fill up our flower beds this year. Here is one area that we worked on a couple of weeks ago. We're going to eventually add more tiles and extend this section, but for now, it's a decent start. The plants are still young but they will grow quickly and those pots will fill up in no time! I do all my garden work early in the morning because the side of our house faces south and by late morning the entire yard is flooded with sun, which is great for the plants but not so great for the humans. Baby tree is doing wonderfully! We've had a good amount of rain, which we're so grateful for. It'll keep the ground moist while the roots are growing and settling in. And we gave our little variegated maple a name. Ready? Here it is...drumroll... Eva! The way Wall-E pronounces it. Eeeeeva. Have you seen that animated film? The name is actually Eve in the movie but we decided on Eva the way Wall-E says it; much more fun. Here is a glimpse of Eeeeeva.
The image doesn't do her justice. She is much prettier in person with her lovely variegated leaves. And now that we've discovered how much joy this little tree has brought into our lives, we'll be adding two more as fast as we can. It's a nice day as I write this and we'll likely head out this afternoon to the garden center where we picked up Eva from to order two more trees.

Speaking of garden centers, I'll be popping over to one this morning before I head outside to do yard work. So...I will leave you now with these funny images. Enjoy and have an amazing week ahead!

  4. We have flying cars. They're called helicopters. That's as close as the laws of physics allow us to get to a flying car. Seriously, seeing how people drive on the freeway, would you really want the same idiots passing over your house?

Glad your plants are doing so well. It looks like the shade of those trees, when they get big, will be welcome.

    1. HAHA I agree! We have enough to deal with on freeways. We certainly don't need cars above us. And our home is in desperate need of shade from trees. I wish we'd planted them earlier but at least we're finally getting to it.

  6. Your tree and flower garden are both beautiful. Glad you got to do some socializing. I went to my great-niece's 4th birthday party so I scored some cake. :) I don't use Feedly or Bloglovin. I sign up to get emails of blog posts and I find some through hops. Have a wonderful week. XO

    1. It has happily settled in, Jenn! I expected a little bit of stress when we planted it but it took to its new home like a champ. Sounds like you are keeping really busy. Weeding is something that has now become part of my weekly routine! I don't like it but I do it. HAHA Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. We are so in love with that tree, Sandy. We talk about it like we've adopted a child. HAHA Our property has been without trees for too long and it's nice to finally get a few planted. I hope you've had a nice week and I wish you a wonderful weekend!

  11. I've never seen a variegated maple - it's beautiful. I had to go read up on it! Sounds like it will be a great shade tree and will live a long, long life. Okay, now I can't wait to see what you name the other two :) It's been too cold here to plant anything yet but I think our final frost is past. Your yard is looking good and I can imagine how much fun you're having choosing all the plants.

Thanks for the chuckles. Love the cat art. "Suffer Ring" - lol. Poor cats with no food in the very centre of the bowl. Tsk :)

    1. We had no idea there was such a thing as a variegated maple! We just happened to notice it at the garden center. And we fell instantly in love! It is such a gorgeous tree. I wish we'd planted it when we moved here but we had so many other priorities and expenses over the years. This year we finally had the garden as the priority, so I'm really happy about that. It's keeping us busy but it's a wonderful kind of busy. Oh yes, cats, and the suffering they go through when there are holes in the bowl. *eye roll* Have a wonderful weekend!

And we named them. LOL Spending time outdoors has been great. I think the garden will keep us busy this year but also very happy. I hope you and Ron are both doing great! Happy weekend to the both of you.

  13. Hi Martha I am finally stopping long enough to leave a comment ! LOL
I love that variegated maple .. I have seen a few around Kingston and I always thought they were so darn pretty ! .. I don't know how to explain what a "mother of all trees" our Pacific Sunset Maple has become .. seriously every year I say to John "it was never supposed to be this BIG !" .. he just nods his head and says we have enough trees now right ? LOL .. I have NOT counted all the trees we have, so I leave it as a yes .. for now ... because you can NEVER have enough trees ! LOL
I love laughing at your cartoons ... thanks !

And today I mentioned number six. LOL I agree...you can NEVER have enough trees! I hope you are doing well and enjoying a lovely weekend.
