Happy new week, friends! And happy September. I know we're already a few days into this new month but I haven't posted since it began, so here I am. How is everyone doing? What are you up to these days? We've actually had a very quiet week. I didn't even get my marathon walk in yesterday because it was raining. And the weather really turned on us today. I went out to take photos of the garden this morning and it was actually cold. Okay, it wasn't really cold but it was much cooler than what we've been experiencing lately.
Anyhow, I went out to take photos, so I can share with you the highlight of the garden lately: the sunflowers! We have two growing and they are gigantic. They've got to be at least eight feet tall. The bigger one is probably taller than that. The flowers are larger than dinner plates! They're gorgeous and always filled with pollinators. I went out to water yesterday and the flowers were full of bees. Take a look at this spectacular bloom:
And our hydrangea tree, Odin, is switching to his autumn shades. The flowers will deepen in colour as the weeks go by. For a tiny tree, he puts on quite a show.
I have more images to share but I'll save them for next week. I don't have much else to add, so we'll get right to the funny stuff. Enjoy and have an amazing week!
Beautiful blooms. I love sunflowers, they are such happy flowers. Great funnies- love the blow fish one. Have a wonderful week. XO
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are simply adorable! I hope you're having a wonderful week. xo
DeleteMy friends' sunflowers were devastated
ReplyDeleteBy a squirrel it was like a storm passed through! It seemed to know they were away for the weekend or the dog wasnt around either
Oh, that's sad, Christine! That has happened to me in the past. But so far, the two we have are still standing. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
DeleteHahahahahaha, the seagull playing Grand Theft French Fry!
ReplyDeleteWhat else would they do in their spare time? HAHA
DeleteGot my ass kicked at work because of labor day. I don't get a day off because these pricks got nothing better to do.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sorry to hear that, Adam! That totally sucks.
DeleteNice sunflowers! I can see why the bees are impressed.
ReplyDeleteThat cat will know better than to eat any more blowfish. But I think the true ideal video game for birds would be target-crapping on cars.
HAHA! Yes, target-crapping on cars would be the ideal video game for birds, especially after a vehicle has gone through the car wash.
DeleteYour sunflowers just must make you smile every time you look at them! The birds will like the seed heads later on. - Jenn
ReplyDeleteThey do, Jenn! Today they were being visited by chickadees. That really made me smile!
DeleteOh these are awesome pictures of sunflowers dear Martha :)
ReplyDeleteThey just made my day what delight to look at them, thank you so much for sharing I loved them. The central disc of the sunflower is denser and darker in color here I think and reason is the weather for sure
I adore sunflowers and I plant them every year. The center of the flower will darken as the seeds grow in. I'm looking forward to that!
DeleteLove your sunflower photos. They are wonderful plants. Enjoyed seeing the funny cat cartoons. The blow fish one made me laugh. Martha, thank you for all your kind comments on my photo blog. Always enjoy hearing from you.
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are my garden darlings. I just adore them! Next year I'll add smaller ones that I can scatter around the garden. I'm glad you enjoyed the funnies!
DeleteHi Martha, it's been a long time since I've stopped here. I hope you're doing well.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are beautiful, and so full of life!
Thanks for getting me to laugh, that comedy is great. I needed something to make me laugh, today. So, thanks again.
I recently created a new blog, if you'd like to stop by, just click on my name, and perhaps I'll see you there.
Lon, it's really nice to see you here! I'm glad you enjoyed the humour. I'm visiting all the blogs this evening, so I'll be popping over to yours shortly. I hope all is well.
DeleteSunflowers are one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both, John!
DeleteSunflowers make me uneasy, they always make me think of the evil alien Triffids from the scary book they made me study in High School.
ReplyDeleteThat would do it! Which books was it?
DeleteYour sunflowers are beautiful, great photographs.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the funnies.
Have a good week.
All the best Jan
Thank you, Jan! I hope your week is going well.
DeleteYour garden just keeps giving! I do like hydrangeas but have never grown one. Thanks for the chuckles - I especially liked the cat on the treadmill, and the porcupine who claimed he wasn't scared but whose quills somehow fell out :)
ReplyDeleteThe garden has been thriving this year. I truly believe that one of the major contributes is that we didn't have many heat waves. The weather was more comfortable than not. That really helped!
DeleteWOW! The sunflower shots are stunners!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the funnies. Thank you!
Have a great weekend!
You're welcome! I'm so please you enjoyed the funnies. Every Monday! I hope to see you here again.
Deletei'm behind here - loving the funnies, and your cat is beautiful ...in the last post you put up.
ReplyDeleteVisit when you can, Sandy! No pressure. I post to make people laugh!
DeleteOh Lord, I'm behind too. I'm always behind. After all these years I still haven't figured out how to stay on top of blog visits. You always succeed in making me laugh with the great funnies you find. "Didn't scare me!" ~ Right! Have a good one!
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, Louise! I'm always behind on all the social media sites. Visit when you can, if you can and if you want to!
DeleteThat's an impressive sunflower! Do you save the seeds?
ReplyDeleteI aim to. I mostly leave the seeds for the animals, but I like to save a few.
