Chuckles and Chortles

Happy Monday Tuesday, blogging pals! I'm a day late and a dollar short. I had everything ready to upload yesterday and I just never got around to it. Mostly because I was distracted by other things. So...what's new with you? What are you up to these days? Tell me all about it in the comments.

We had a lovely weekend. Saturday evening we met up with my bestie and her husband at a restaurant about 45 minutes from here. The weather was amazing! We sat outside the entire time and we honestly could have stayed there for hours more if the place hadn't shut down. It was one of those evenings where you just couldn't be more comfortable outdoors. It was neither hot nor cold. It was simply perfect. Might as well squeeze in some fun on days like that because before we know it, winter will be here and we'll end up indoors more often than not. And yesterday morning, I met up with my walking buddy at 7:30 AM and she and I went for a 3 hour stroll! I came home feeling great and spent the next hour in the garden watering and feeding our friendly chipmunk.

Speaking of the garden, below are a couple of photos for you. The first one is Foxglove, which the insects, especially bees, love! And the second one is a daylily that is back in bloom. Oh...here's something exciting! I saw the most beautiful dragonfly in my garden last week. It was HUGE. HUUUUUGE. It looked like a little helicopter. I was really excited about that and regretted not having taken a camera with me outside that day. Ah, well...

And here's my goofball of a cat posing for the camera:

Enough photos for today? I think so, too. Let's get right to the funnies. Enjoy them and enjoy an amazing week!

  5. It was singularly tasteless for Brazil to name its most spectacular natural feature after Bezos's website. Almost as bad a JFK's parents naming him after an airport (h/t Red Dwarf).

If cats were as big as the one in the Titanic cartoon, none of us would be safe. On the other hand, they'd be able to do something about those birds chasing the swim trunks guy.

Your flowers continue to impress! Clearly you're a lot better at keeping things alive than I would be.

    1. HAHA! Your first line is hilarious. And you're right. We'd all be in trouble if cats were that big. They are already running the world even though they're small. I can't imagine what they'd be doing if they were larger!

  6. Funny ones this week, Martha! Aren’t big dragonflies so cool? Back when the kids were younger we had a trampoline with a surrounding safety net. Dragonflies would fly into the net and get stuck. I did a lot of rescues with my kitchen scissors, cutting through the net!

    1. Oh, Jenn, I LOVE that you would rescue the dragonflies. That is great. They are the coolest little critters. My cat is a little nutty, so if yours is, too, they'd get along wonderfully!

  8. I love how the temperatures are dropping like flies at night into the early morning hours. A couple days ago where my wife and I stay, that morning the temperature was 51-degree Fahrenheit which really felt refreshing!

My wife and I don't have a vehicle; therefore, we do a lot of walking, which I also love!

Those flowers from your garden are truly beautiful! I love flowers not only for their different colors but, also how they show the softer side of life.

Ah, a dragonfly, I love watching them!

Your cat is beautiful, I love watching the humorous things that some cats do!

Those funnies are great, I especially got a kick out of the one with the swing set.

    1. The cooler weather is fabulous, Lon! I don't like extreme weather either way. I like weather that is comfortable and great for walking and being outdoors. That is great that you and your wife do a lot of walking. Great form of exercise and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy each other's company and talk. I hope you are well. And thanks for popping in!

    1. I agree, Baili! As I get older, being surrounded by nature is becoming more and more my favourite thing. I've always enjoyed it but it's getting even more appealing now. I'll be sad when the garden goes to sleep but it will be back in the spring. A little rest will be good. Hugs and blessings to you, too, my lovely friend.

  14. Martha! And here I thought you were on 'summer hiatus'! I usually get your blog postings through an email.......but none have been showing up since early July! Go figure!
So I am now caught up. Your garden is flourishing! Beautiful blossoms! Whatever you're doing, continue.
And of course your 'funnies' are always good! That one you put up for Debra/witchcraft/lesbian was GREAT!
Good to have you back. Will have to check out why your posts are no longer coming through email to me.
    Have a good week.

  15. Your foxglove is beautiful, Martha! It reminds me of family gardens in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. I haven't seen it in Colorado gardens, but I do see lots of gorgeous day lilies like yours. I was laughing at each of your funnies. You found some great ones!
